RawrLove for Rara

June 1, 2015

We interrupt our regular programming (I know, I know, the programming hasn’t been regular for a while, I’m getting to that) to bring you this very important message…….

This one is for Rara, the well-loved blogger whom you may know as Rarasaur. As you may already know, Rara has been serving a prison sentence for the past year—we don’t have to get into the details here—she has written about her situation in detail on her blog. Suffice it to say, she was given a bum rap. She’s scheduled to be released in a few months.

A few weeks ago, her beloved husband, whom you may know as Grayson Queen (also known as Dave), died suddenly. He died way too soon and way too young. His last posts are haunting; he wrote of not feeling well and described some troubling symptoms. And then the posts stopped.

DJMatticus took on the unenviable and difficult task of announcing the news about Dave’s death. He has been good enough to keep us posted on the memorial service, and most importantly, on how Rara is holding up.

Under the circumstances, I don’t know how anyone would hold up. But here’s what I do know: when Rara is released, she’s going to need some help. She’ll need the love and kindness of her friends and family, but she’ll also need assistance of a more practical nature.

Click on this cute little guy to donate

So here’s where you and I come in. I’ve created a GoFundMe campaign for Rara, called RawrLove for Rara. You can click on this link or on the little dinosaur to go to the campaign page and donate. You can reblog this post, you can share the link in your blog/Facebook page/Twitter feed/email messages/whatever. The important thing is that we help Rara get back on her feet, because when she’s released she’ll have very little to start off with.

I’m going to keep the GoFundMe campaign active until we meet (but hopefully exceed) the donation target. I will also keep the little dinosaur fella on my blog throughout the campaign, and you can click on it anytime to get to the donation page. All money raised will go to Rara.

Many, many thanks to all of you in advance, and extra thanks to the righteous DJMatticus for writing the campaign description on the GoFundMe page.

I promise promise promise I’ll be back with an irreverent and swear-laden post soon! In the meantime, you look really fetching today. That color suits you so well, you really should wear it more often.

    Weebs,
Thanks so much for posting this. It feels like some sort of bizarre Greek tragedy. Rara has been through so much and now this. Going over to the campaign now.

Doesn’t it?? I cannot believe how much Rara has been through. Greek tragedy is the only way to describe it. Thank you so much, my friend–I hope you, Peter, Leo and Cielo have been happy and well!

Thank you, my chocolate-loving friend. When I heard about poor Rara’s husband I felt like I had been shot in the stomach, and the other day when I was writing to Rara, the idea just popped into my head to do this. Maybe it was Dave putting the suggestion in my ear.

      And how are you, lady??

We are ridiculously busy with it being the Order’s centenary this year. Which is causing me a to feel rather stressed out and a little prone to tears. However it will pass once we’ve got to the end of July. In the meantime, I have knitting, crochet and chocolate!

How are you, Mr Weebles and the Weeblettes?

One of the things I love best about the blog-o-spere is its ability to do good, whether in the form of a providing laugh or point of view, or reaching out to help others. Thanks to you both for using your powers for good, Matt and Weebs 😉

How strange and bizarre that YOU have been on my mind, and this… I saw that you were posting, and got all happy that you were here, to read this sad news. Such strange and twisted turns this has all taken. I can’t begin to imagine what this has felt like for Rara. Thanks for sharing, Madame, even if for the darkest reasons. Your heart always shines bright. xox

My Lady, it pleases me greatly to see you, even under these less than perfect circumstances. I can’t wrap my head around the events that have taken place in Rara’s life over the past year, it’s all so unreal and so unfair. And thank you for saying such nice things about me. ❤ I hope you've been healthy, happy and well!

Rara’s story is indeed unbelievably sad – she’s such a positive light in everyone’s life, there just aren’t adequate words to express the horrendous unfairness of it all. Well done for doing this. Can we put the little dinosaur linking to the donate page on our blogs too?

Thank you for setting this up. I’m grateful that I can help.

I think that I live close(ish) to her. I may be able to help with food. I know that she has dietary restrictions (vegan, not sure what else). I’m an herbivore, too, and could help there.

You are most kind, madam, and I’m sure she will truly appreciate any assistance you can provide. Yes, I think she’s vegan, or at least vegetarian. When she’s released, we can probably help coordinate all sorts of things for/with her. I wish I could do more but since I’m on the east coast, I figure at least this will help. Thank you so much.

How about we become the village that helps one of our own? Rara could use a little help rebuilding her life, especially with the recent death of her beloved husband. I can’t even imagine what that must feel like, to know you have to go on without your soul mate and navigate the world solo. Every little bit helps. Thank you!

I don’t have much, but I’m glad to give something. It all adds up, hopefully. It has been a painful year and a dreadful few months of many losses. Let’s see if we can help make this less awful.

I’ve lost my entire line of blood-relatives and know there are no words to compensate for Rara’s loss. We can only be here for her when the days and nights seem to become unbearable. Knowing that there is someone out there that cares – THAT helps to make a difference.

Amen, sir. By the way, I’m greatly enjoying your website–I can’t imagine what sort of hell the war in the Pacific was, although I’ve done a lot of research and writing about it. We had a family friend who was a paratrooper as well, but in Europe. You guys are tough hombres.

Thanks for the compliment on the site, but my father was the paratrooper, I merely belong to the association; which does give me some of the eye witness stories.

Yes! I will donate. I can’t get her out of my mind. No-one should have to deal with what she’s been dealt. May we all raise enough money for her so that at least she can have a chance to start over and build a new life. She has so much life in her to be lived, and in true Rara style so much to give.

What a horrible tragic turn. I had a conversation with Rara before she was incarcerated. I had no idea what fate was resting before her and now this. She told me that she reads my poetry and likes to hold it. I remember how good that made me feel. It haunts me all that has happened to her. Thank you for posting this. I want to help in any way I can. Audra

You look almost exactly as I pictured you, except for some reason I imagined you with darker hair. Otherwise you look very much like I imagined. And thanks for the kind words–I can’t imagine coping with what Rara is going through either.

Hiya AR! I saw you mentioned in Matt’s post about the memorial service, and it’s nice to “meet” you! That’s a cool idea about the booster–I didn’t even know about things like this. I’ll have to check about the dinosaur image because I swiped it off the internet, not sure if it’s actually a free image or if I’m technically stealing someone’s work (oops). I’ll check!

Wow, I’m floored. What a horrible thing to happen. I haven’t been around much and would reblog this if my entire readership weren’t already here, in your comment thread, and had reblogged it themselves.
Thank you for posting this. You’re an amazing woman with an incredible heart. The world would be a wonderful place if it took a few pages from this WordPress community. You give me hope for humanity.
